Bilious Blog…Around Europe in 80 days#47

Berlin always surprises me…having a coffee outside a nice little cafe on. Rosa-Luxemburg Straße just by some traffic lights.Police van pulls up just past the lights in the middle of the street and four cops bundle out…oh what’s going here.They all pile into the cafe to get a coffee each…there a good couple of minutes much to the chagrin of other drivers.To be honest getting an early morning coffee is sometimes an emergency so fair enough I suppose…

Met up with the Forest Gate Posse yesterday and we of course ended up having a bit of a bevvy.Very nice too.We Met in a very local estate pub by their hotel( Think the Ashmore but with nice friendly people.One for my Wednesfield readers there) Between seven of us our drinks bill was €37.We had three drinks each…not too shabby eh? A bottle of Berliner was two Euros a pop…later we headed down to Kreuzberg and ended the night in a curry house.Definitely the best one I’ve had on this trip so far even though the waiter had no idea what Bombay Potatoes were(what!!!! A staple of any Indian surely?) Not sure what the plans are today,think they’re going sightseeing and we’re meeting up later…it was great to have a catch up with mates…

Been for a look at Max Schmeling Halle.He was married to my great aunt Anny Ondra and fought Joe Louis twice just before WW2 and of course the Nazis tried to appropriate him and use the fights as a race thing.Schmeling wanted no part in this but had little choice.I think the fact that him & Joe became close friends after the war shows his true worth and he also helped save a couple of Jewish children during the war too.So all in all a bit of a hero…

This is going to be a shorter that usual blog today but as I normally do I will probably do ad ons.The reason I publish this straight away is I have tried to save the text on a few occasions and each time inadvertently deleted the lot.Clearly I am doing something mind numbingly stupid but can’t work out what!

Ps Got my Berlin lighter.This might seem an odd thing but I have been collecting lighters of everywhere I stay.My old one died on me in Munich and I just bought the first one I saw which happened to be a “Munich” one and I just thought I’d start from there.Couldn’t get one in Budejovice but hey ho…like football stickers I’ll do a swapsy with one for a Ceske Krumlov!
